Prashanth Chandrasekar was selected as the next CEO of Stack Overflow, with his first day set for October 1st. Born in Bangalore, India—the city with the highest density of Stack Overflow users globally and a hub for software developers—Chandrasekar brings a deep understanding of the developer ecosystem.
Early Life and Education
Chandrasekar began his career as a software engineer before transitioning into leadership roles. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Maine, a Master’s in Engineering Management from Cornell University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. This educational foundation equipped him with both technical and business expertise.
Career Path and Achievements
His professional journey includes roles at Capgemini as a management consultant and at Barclays in their technology investment banking group. However, it was at Rackspace where Chandrasekar truly demonstrated his ability to drive transformation. He built the Global Managed Public Clouds Business unit from the ground up, helping enterprises manage their workloads on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and other platforms. Under his leadership, Rackspace pivoted from a leading managed hosting provider to a cloud services company, all while collaborating closely with developers both inside and outside the organization.
