Breaking: Google Launches Spark AI Agent at $100/Month
Google has officially announced Spark, a Gemini-powered personal AI agent that operates continuously in the cloud. The service will cost $100 per month as part of a revamped AI Ultra plan.
The rollout begins this week, starting with 'trusted testers' before a wider release to Google AI Ultra subscribers next week, according to company representatives.
How Spark Works
Spark is a 24/7 cloud-based AI agent that navigates across a user's digital life. It connects to all core Google services including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
'Give Spark a complex task and it will set off on its own to complete it, spawning sub-agents to tackle different aspects of its assignment as needed,' a Google spokesperson said during a pre-brief session.
Tasks Spark can perform include checking inboxes for client messages, building self-updating student study guides, and drafting emails based on data from multiple Google services.
Third-Party Integration
Beyond Google's ecosystem, Spark will support a 'whole set' of MCP (Model Context Protocol) connectors for third-party services. Partners include Adobe, Asana, Box, Canva, Dropbox, HubSpot, Intuit, Monday.com, Pandora, Spotify, and Wix.
This means Spark can access Dropbox files, check project status on Monday.com, or assist with Canva designs.
Cloud-Based Architecture
Unlike desktop assistants, Spark lives entirely in the cloud. It cannot directly access local files, which Google says reduces privacy risks like prying into personal bank statements.
Users communicate with Spark via text and email, eliminating the need for a dedicated app. They can include Spark in text chains or CC it on email threads.
Pricing and Plans
The new AI Ultra plan starts at $100 per month, with a top tier at $200. This replaces the previous single-tier $250 price. Google AI Pro users will not have access to Spark.
Background
Spark was previously known internally as 'Remy,' but the final name was revealed at Google I/O on Tuesday. The launch follows predictions that Google would introduce a premium AI assistant.
The agent is powered by Gemini, Google's advanced AI model, and represents the company's latest effort to monetize AI capabilities.
