Breaking: Firefox 150 Now Available

Mozilla has officially released Firefox 150, bringing significant enhancements to Split View, a native emoji picker for Linux, and PDF page ordering. The update is rolling out to all desktop users starting today.

"We're listening to our users and delivering the features they need most," said a Mozilla spokesperson. "This release focuses on productivity and cross-platform parity."

Split View Gets Smarter

Firefox's Split View, introduced in version 149, now gains the ability to open links directly in a split panel. Right-click any link and choose "Open Link in Split View" to instantly view two pages side by side within a single tab.

A new "Reverse Tabs" option appears in the context menu of a focused split, letting users swap the left and right panels effortlessly. "This is a direct response to power users who wanted more flexibility," the spokesperson noted.

Native Emoji Picker for Linux

Linux users have long awaited this feature. Firefox 150 introduces a built-in emoji picker accessible via a keyboard shortcut or right-click context menu. The picker supports search and recent emojis, matching the experience on Windows and macOS.

"We're committed to feature parity across platforms," said the spokesperson. "Linux users shouldn't feel second-class." Open-source advocate Maria Torres added, "This is a huge step for Linux desktop usability."

PDF Editor Now Supports Page Ordering

The PDF editor receives a major upgrade with page reordering. Users can drag and drop pages to rearrange them within the PDF viewer. This builds on last month's PDF editing capabilities added in Firefox 149.

Additional PDF improvements include better rendering and annotation tools. "We're making Firefox a viable PDF workhorse," the company stated.

Multi-Tab Sharing and More

Firefox 150 also enhances multi-tab sharing, allowing users to share groups of tabs more easily. Combined with Split View, this helps organize research or comparison tasks.

Other minor updates include performance tweaks and security fixes. The full changelog is available at Mozilla's release notes.

Background: The Evolution of Split View

Split View debuted in Firefox 149 as a way to view two web pages side by side without juggling windows. The feature was well-received but limited. Version 150 addresses these gaps with link-based splitting and reverse tabs.

Similarly, the PDF editor was introduced last version with basic annotation. Now, page ordering completes the core editing suite. The emoji picker fills a long-standing gap on Linux, which previously lacked native emoji input in browsers.

What This Means for Users

Firefox 150 represents a major step forward in productivity. For Linux users, the emoji picker eliminates the need for third-party tools. For all users, Split View improvements reduce window clutter and streamline multitasking.

PDF page ordering makes Firefox a stronger alternative to dedicated PDF editors for basic tasks. "These features show Mozilla's focus on practical, everyday improvements," the spokesperson concluded. The update also includes under-the-hood optimizations for faster startup and lower memory usage, benefiting all platforms.

Firefox 150 is available now for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Update via the built-in updater or download from the official website.
